Suggestions & Comments

Please post any rule amendments that you may have for each round of the tourney.

The purpose of this tourney is to come up with a definitive ruleset for Empire, one to be used for a possible CCS league.

The main goal is balanced games, without inf/cav rush or skirm/cav ambush.

The first round will be played with the original rules: No fixed, max 4 same unit.

I received this suggestion for rules in an email, I have received many about limiting light dragoons already:

I has tested max 4 same on LowLands and I saw same army by all players: 4 light inf, 4 light dragons, 4 line inf and one something. This game is very bored and sam. My opinion about rules: 1 ferg/1 wind max, 3HA max (inc 2 light drag max). I think this more intresting and give chance fractions without light dragons (France, Ottomans, Marath), and playes will using all kinds cavallery.

Please could people give their opinion on this.

Personally I think if we are going to limit wb and fergs, we should also limit swiss and us marines.

I really want to avoid the inf/cav rush and the skirm/cav ambush, to me those games are the most boring.

I think that for line infantry need make exception in rule 4 max same because almost all factions have only one type lines (only Netherlands have 3 type lines, USA have simple lines and us marines and Maratha have two type lines) and guards have too high cost.

If make limit for light dragoons then whether it will be entered in the first round? Or we will play in first round with rules no fixed art and max 4 same only?

I think that dragoons needs max 2 for balance.

First round will be original rules. I may edit them for the second round depending on feedback.

Sylquartz you know as well as anybody here that this is a rule that simply cannot be reinforced or proven. Shrapnel and cannons as a whole, by their very nature, particularly in this era, were wildly inaccurate in terms of the distance they travelled. Ergo, certain teams will certainly be feigning ignorance when it comes to this e.g "Oh, well it overshot but I didn't mean for it to do it..." - try telling that to my 20 dead men kind sir!

But yeah, it's better to just have it and that way both sides can use it, thus it is even.

It's true, every game I hae had which is "without range cheat" my art gets blasted before I get in the correct range. Then people act all innocent, and what can you do?

For someone watching the replay you can't see the range line, so it's a judgement call.

I'll not sign up for that one lol.

What we are loking for is unit limits etc...

The rules are designed to close down the spam loophole that other tourney seem to leave open. There's only a couple of faction where you can spam inf or rifles, you can only use them once and your opponent will see you coming.

And what about dragoons spam ? 4 dragoons is very much. I thinks needs rule 3 HA max including 2 light dragoons max.

I don't think light dragoons are unbalanced. Most factions have them, and melee cav beats them in melee.

I would limit US marines before I limited dragoons.

My suggestion is that for a tourney that is being used as a trial for some rules for a league this one is moving at a snails pace.

Might I suggest some stricter rules around posting and a longer deadline around playing the games. A 1 week deadline really is setting itself up to fail and makes the extension of deadlines seem arbitrary when the admin is almost obliged to extend at least once. Even if these kind of rulings aren't introduced in this tourney I still think it warrants discussion. How can we best ensure that a tourney ticks along at a decent pace. Because personally I really can't be bothered with a tourney that pretty much guarantees I'll spend more time waiting around for players than actually playing the game. I'd be happier playing inter clan friendly matches. I hope I'm not alone in this.
